Sis May is a middle-aged woman living in Soweto.  The series follows the comedic daily lives of Sis May, her neighbour and her niece.  Sis May's life is complicated when S'dumo, played by Joe Mafela, comes to live with her. This series was the highest performing series on television in the late 80s and early 90s.

Orkney Snork Nie

1989 - 1992.  Sitcom. Afrikaans. Comedy series about the Van Tonder family from Orkney, a small mining town near Klerksdorp. The Van Tonders are dad Hendrik, a shift boss at the local mine; his wife Maggie; Hendrik's father; two teenagers Hess and Wimpie; married son Ouboet, whose two greatest loves are car engines and his ditsy wife Yolanda. The family gets frequent, unexpected and disruptive   visits from Maggie's mother, Ouma Gous. The Van Tonders also take on two foster children, Riekie and Neelsie. Orkney Snork Nie has been one of the most successful South African TV comedies and is seen as the first Afrikaans sitcom.
